As Global Claims Practice Leader, you will collaborate closely with the GCUO Property, Energy & Construction team, and also Business Unit/country Claims Leaders and fellow Claims Practice leaders, playing a pivotal role on some of the most complex claims, providing input as required on other claim matters, as well as working with the team to analyze the wider portfolio and share trends and lessons learned.

You will be part of the Claims Leadership Team Practice Community, sharing insights and experiences across products and geographies. The role also involves close working with key stakeholders including the local Underwriting Managers for Property, Construction & Energy, the Actuarial team and Claims Management.

The role is open to candidates from all locations with home office location to be agreed. The scope is worldwide therefore a flexible approach is required. There will be some international travel and work outside of normal office hours may be required given multiple time zones.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Globally monitoring a portfolio of the largest and most complex losses and potential exposures to promote best claim handling practices and ensure compliance with early warning and large loss protocols. Providing insights into watchlist developments and emerging risks & trends.
  • Large Loss Governance: Ensuring that across the portfolio, claims handling is compliant with the Large Loss Framework with active participation and leadership in roundtable and watchlist review meetings. Driving accurate and timely reserving and surfacing of lessons learned.
  • Catastrophe Management: playing a key role in managing our response to Cat events, collating information and assessing our overall exposures.
  • Acting as a Strategic Business Partner to GCUO Property, Construction & Energy and also ensuring that Regional CUOs Property, Construction & Energy as well as the Regional Chief Claims Officers are supported in accurate reporting of large claims and emerging trends.
  • Collaborating with Country Claims Managers and Claims Handlers on processes related to coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving and resolution of claims in accordance with Global Claims guidelines, service standards and regulations.
  • Engaging with other Practice leaders within the Global Practice community to ensure consistent support, input and collaboration.
  • Assessing potential high severity claims and difficult issues across multiple jurisdictions including determining case strategies and action plans with the Claims Handlers and Claims Managers.
  • In conjunction with the Claims Managers, serving as a strategic business partner to and collaborator with the local Underwriting Managers for Property, Construction and Energy and the dedicated reserving actuaries as well as other key stakeholders; providing critical post-loss analysis, wording guidance and feedback.
  • You will report to the Global Head of Technical Claims and Exposure Management.

    Reporting directly into this role will be one Europe based Property, Construction & Energy Practice leader (role currently vacant). In addition, two claims colleagues who have a hybrid role including a Property Practice element will report to this role on a matrix reporting line.

    We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Claims Experience: Suitable candidates are likely to have extensive claims experience, with prior exposure in Property, Construction & Energy – including experience handling complex claims. Specialized product-specific experience required as well as good working knowledge of litigation management and pertinent regulatory issues.
  • Legal & Regulatory Knowledge: Robust knowledge of multi-jurisdictional insurance coverage law and claim regulations.
  • Market knowledge: A good knowledge of Americas, UK & Lloyds, APAC & Europe market dynamics, processes, and systems.
  • Customer Focus: High dedication to customer service including professionalism and diplomacy in broker and insured relations.
  • Effective Collaborator: Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with claims handlers and managers as well as insureds, brokers, underwriters and legal counsel. Providing guidance and seeking input from others as needed to achieve the best result possible. Capable of working and collaborating with a virtual team.
  • Supportive of colleagues/emerging talent: Providing support, encouragement and training to colleagues as required.
  • Outstanding Communicator: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, presentation and influencing skills. Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of sophistication. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and efficiently juggle numerous concurrent responsibilities.
  • Results Oriented: Approach tasks proactively and anticipate needs. Think quickly and prioritize multiple work streams without sacrificing quality. Act with a sense of urgency.
  • Continuous Improvement Focused: Willing to ask questions and explore new ideas. Eager to learn and focused on continuously improving technical skills and AXA XL claims capabilities.
  • Fluent in English (and desirable another European Language such as French and/or German).
  • The pay range for this position is $225,000-$280,000 USD. 

    AXA XL is a global Company. The salary range noted above is applicable only for US applicants. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
